Richmond, VA- Bank of the Commonwealth $50 18__ as G8a as Jones-Littlefield BR15-41 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
This note features an oval portrait of Madison, a vignette of a slave mother and child, and the state treasurer's die in addition to a number of red-orange design elements including the bank title and a FIFTY-L-FIFTY protector. The note is printed on India paper with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. PMG notes a stain, apparently referring to a very light damp stain in the lower right corner that is masked by the design. There was a single example of this denomination in Lot 1999 of the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale, although this appears to be a second example and not that note.
