    Description

Richmond, VA- Bank of the Commonwealth $100 July 1, 1861 G20a Jones BR15-46
A beautiful and much rarer denomination from an available issuer of Richmond notes. When offered, this type often realizes significant results. This is from the later series with the American Bank Note Company imprint. The State Treasurer's signature line has been struck out with red ink on this striking red and black high denomination note that features a portrait of John Marshall and a vignette of a farm girl resting in the field with a train in the distance. Art obtained this from our 2016 CSNS sale for $1,175. That is a bargain compared with the lights out price realized for the Newman Collection note in May 2016 which fetched just over $4,000. Extremely Fine.
