Petersburg, VA- Bank of the City of Petersburg $100 May 1. 1861 G10b J-L BP25-40 PMG Very Fine 25.
The $100 was the largest denomination issued by the bank and like its other pre-war issues was printed in three colors, black green, and red. The note features a cut down version of the vignette titled Dawn at left as well as a vignette of a cotton boll and smaller vignettes of a train, steamboat, and a child. Like virtually all of the notes from this bank, the $100 has numerous POCs with PMG additionally noting a very small piece of tape in the lower right corner on the back that does not appear to be serving any purpose. Always popular and seldom offered.
