DescriptionMonterey, VA- Strickler & Gilmor $1 Oct. 1, 1861 Jones PM70-29 Very Good-Fine.
Jacob P. Strickler is listed in the 1860 Federal Census for Monterey as a merchant. Jesse Gilmor, listed as a store clerk, was living with the Strickler family. From military records, it appears that Gilmor enlisted, was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Virginia 31st Infantry Regiment, but did not survive the war. He was already in military service when these notes were first issued. Well circulated, this note is missing both of the bottom corners but still exhibits bright colors.
