    Lynchburg, VA- Merchants Bank of Virginia $7 Oct. 6, 1860 G6 J-L BL40-30 PMG Very Fine 20.
The Merchants Bank of Virginia was one of a number of institutions that issued $6, $7, $8, and $9 notes. The purpose of these notes was to provide an alternative to low denomination notes for making change. So the person making a $3 purchase and paying with $10 could be presented with a $7 as change. These odd denominations are very popular and are extremely rare. This fully issued note, including the state treasurer's countersignature, is free of repairs or any meaningful condition impairments and should attract competitive bidding activity. The note's rarity is accentuated by the fact that we have only offered three modern proprietary proofs in the past.
