    Lynchburg, VA- Merchants Bank of Virginia $6 Oct. 6, 1860 G4 J-L BL40-25 PMG Very Good 8.
The bank issued a series of odd denominations ($6, $7, $8, and $9) that provided an alternative to using $1 and $2 notes to make change. The bank did not issue $1s and $2s until 1861. This note is rare, with an estimated survivor population of 5-9 examples. PMG notes that a fairly large piece of the upper right margin has been reattached. The separation began in the state treasurer die and continued through the middle of the upper right 6 counter. In spite of this, the note faces up very well.
