    Howardsville, VA- Bank of Howardsville $8 Dec. 1, 1859 G6a J-L BH25-30 PMG Very Good 8.
The companion denomination to the previous $7, this $8 features a portrait of Millard Fillmore supported by cherubs and a black man carrying a basket of corn. Curiously this vignette comes in a caucasian version as well (without the tear in the shirt sleeve intentionally added to make certain that the viewer understood that this was a person of color). The red EIGHT protector is faint. PMG notes that this example has been repaired, apparently referring to the lower right corner which has been restored.
