    Howardsville, VA- Bank of Howardsville $7 Dec. 1, 1859 G4a J-L BH25-25 PMG Choice Fine 15.
While the Bank of Howardsville was the issuer of several common notes, this $7 is not one of them. It was issued as an alternative way to make change in the absence of $1 and $2 notes (which the bank did not issue until 1861). The note feature a portrait of a younger Henry Clay, a slave with two horses, and a small vignette of a strong box at bottom center. A large red SEVEN protector and state treasurer die complete the major design elements. A pleasant, evenly circulated example that is repair-free, with only around 5-9 surviving examples known.
