    Virginia/Maryland Tie Note

Berkley Springs, VA- Robert C./P. Gustin at Bank of Hagerstown (MD) $1 July 4, 1837 J-L PB20-08 Fine.
This appears to be either an issue of Robert C. Gustin, a young lawyer, who was also appointed Postmaster of Berkley Springs in 1836, or his brother Robert P. Gustin, a merchant located in Berkley Springs. The note has been made payable to, and is endorsed by "R.P. Gustin" on the back. This is also a Maryland tie note, payable at the Bank of Hagerstown, some 36 miles away. Four early tape repairs of varying sizes are found on the back.
