Alexandria, VA- Alexandria, Loudon & Hampshire Railroad Co. 25¢ May 25, 1861 Jones PA25-50
This railroad was established in 1853, and work continued until 1860 when the its first train arrived in Leesburg, VA from Alexandria, a distance of about 45 miles. With the onset of the Civil War, federal authorities seized all of the railroad's physical assets and property for the duration. Excessively rare, with Jones estimating no more than two to four surviving examples. PMG grades this attractive red note with a bold signature Very Fine 20 Net. The net grade is due to the presence of two stamp hinges on the back. On notes of great rarity, they are of no consequence.
