25¢ Plate Note in Jones-Littlefield Catalog

    (Washington), VA- W.G. Miller & Jno. R. Miller, Sheriffs 10¢; 25¢ Nov. 1, 1861 J-L CR03S-22; CR03S-25 Good-Very Good.
William G. Miller served as Sheriff of Rappahannock County from 1857-60 and was replaced by John R. Miller who served in that position from 1861-69. These notes are extremely rare, with Jones-Littlefield estimating a surviving population of only 2-4 examples of each denomination. The 20¢ is the plate note from the Virginia state catalog. The 10¢ note has a 3/8" edge tear just below the 10 counter at right; the 20¢ note has several large repaired splits and has been severed and rejoined. This marks the first time we have offered any Rappahannock County Sheriff issue in any of our auctions.
From the Aberon Collection of Virginia Obsolete Banknotes (Total: 2 notes)
