Springfield, VT- Exchange Bank $10 June 1, 1854 as G10 as Coulter 16 Proof PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
The bank was chartered in 1854 and continued in business into the next decade although sources are unclear regarding its fate. The note has a Native American family, as well as a teacher and her students, flanking a shield with an X. Oval portraits of Franklin and Clay are surrounded by DW's hallmark medallion-like cameo heads that were virtually impossible to successfully duplicate by counterfeiters. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual POCs in the signature lines. The cardstock is affixed to an original Danforth Wright archive book card. There was one example of this design appearing in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale as part of Lot 1969. A well executed and very rare, possibly unique, proof.

    Estimate: $700 - $1,000.
