    Houston, TX- Government of Texas $3 Apr. 1, 1838 Cr. H15 Medlar 57 PCGS Fine 15.
    Three different varieties of this denomination and issue are listed in both the Shull/Criswell and Medlar references. The 1968 published Medlar gives all three a rarity rating of R4, 25 to 50 known. The 2007 Shull/Criswell reference cites a rarity rating of R8, 51 to 100 known. This is one rarity rating above the "Rare" category in the latter. The cross cut cancellations have been nicely closed and the repairs have been skillfully performed. Overall, this $3 has an evenly circulated appearance.
