Trenton, TN- Bank of Trenton $1 Jan. 1, 1856 G2 S-C T-B.T-1-Pf Proof PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
The bank was organized as a free bank in 1857 and remained in business until 1859 (some sources suggest a bit later) when it closed. The $1 design features a river rafting scene flanked by the state banking die and a vignette of Ceres kneeling by a Native American woman. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual POCs in the signature lines. Very rare and likely to stay that way. We are aware of two or possibly three examples of this design at present.
