Memphis, TN- Mechanics Bank $1 May 17, 1854
A "7" was handwritten within the engraved date to change the issue date from May 1st to May 17. The large train vignette is known as Train of Cars and it was engraved by Mosely Isaac Danforth (1800-62). That design also is found on $1 notes from the Charlotte, Columbia and Augusta Rail Road Company among others. As is typically seen, an "F" was rubber stamped in black ink near the counter at right and a decorative "B" within a circle was rubber stamped to the left of the bank title. Extremely Fine with ink erosion and a tear observed.
