    Description

Chattanooga, TN - A. Merritt, Griffin, Georgia 50 Cents October 1, 1862 Garland UNL. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent.
A rare Chattanooga issued note with a Griffin, Georgia payable and H.P. Hill & Co., Printers, Griffin, Ga. imprint. Printed on brown paper. The merchant name, denomination and counter surrounds at the top are in vibrant red. The text is across and payable "in Currency" at Chattanooga. Small vignettes are at the bottom: a small globe vignette at left, and the Georgia seal at right. Signed by Merritt at the bottom right. There are only some noted "Minor Mounting Remnants on Back." This example is much superior to the Alan Dorris Collection note we sold last January at the 2015 FUN auction for $211.50. A key two-state note in excellent grade.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
