    This is our first time to auction a piece of scrip from this location. It is listed as R14 in the Garland reference. Cocke County is located on the eastern edge of Tennessee. Its county seat is Newport and the first English settlement was established in land inhabited by the Cherokees in 1783. The vignette "Female Riding a Deer" is at center and a native American on the left. Receivable for county taxes, it is bright, with a red overprint, and was printed on lined paper by the Haws & Dunkerley printers of Knoxville. It grades Very Fine with a little edge wear, minor soiling and internal holes.
