Highest Denomination St. George Bishop's Store House Note

St. George, UT - Bishop's Office - Bishop's Store House $1 in Produce and Provisions Undated (Ca. 1890s) Rust UNL, Nyholm 297var. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent.
The highest and only dollar-denominated note from this very rare series. The Newman Collection complete denomination set of five is capped by this $1 example; the others sold in the two previous auctions. Printed on buff paper using the common design style for the series. A single-line border is around the perimeter, with decorative linear elements at three corners and below the "$1" counter at upper right. A beehive is featured under the arced denomination. The obligation is at the bottom with the engraved signature of W.B. Preston. Noted with "Small Edge Splits and Tears; Tape on Back." Although it is difficult to pinpoint the estimate for this rarity with a little bit of tape fault, this is the last chance to obtain the elusive Mormon series from the auspicious Newman Collection.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
