Woonsocket, RI- Citizens Bank $2 Jan. 6, 18__ G22 Durand 2595 Proof PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
The bank was incorporated in Cumberland in 1851, later moving to Woonsocket where it continued in business, until becoming the Citizens National Bank in 1865. This sharply printed and striking $2 has a center vignette of America and Liberty seated as well as side vignettes of an eagle and shield and a steer head. It is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. There were three examples of this design (listed under Cumberland) in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. We presently believe that these three notes equal the surviving population of $2 proofs of this design.
