Providence, RI- Marine Bank $3 18__ G6a as Durand 1535 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The bank was incorporated in 1856 and continued in business until becoming the Third National Bank of Providence in 1865. As befitting the bank's name, this note incorporates a very large marine vignette of a large steamer, as well as a vignette of Faith, Hope, and Charity and another of, perhaps, Commerce. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with a large red THREE protector and the usual POCs in the signature lines. This bank was not represented in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale, but the note was known to, and illustrated by, Haxby in proof form. As far as we can ascertain, this note design's last public appearance was in 2008 as part of the landmark Schingoethe collection. Very rare and likely to stay that way.
