    Silverton-Appeal Depression Scrip 1933

Silverton, OR- The Silverton Appeal-Tribune $1 Mar. 28, 1933 Shafer UNL Fine.
A most unusual piece of Depression Scrip measuring approximately 11 by 8.25 inches. The first of this issuer that we have seen and it is not listed in the Shafer-Mitchell reference. Our long time advanced collector consignor states that it is unique and anyway the total emission for this issue must have been extremely low. It is titled as a "PRO-SPEND-ITY (Non-Hoarding) CHECK." The serial number is 13 and the payee is one Lowell F. Hoblitt, who kicked off its journey of 20 stops as payment to local citizens. It grades Fine with minor staining and a few small splits at the fold intersections. It is roulette cancelled three times with the date of "5 9 33" and a rubber stamping tells us that a U.S. tax of 2 cents was paid. This was our description when we sold it for $312 in our 2017 Long Beach sale.
