    Description

An Early Use of the Portrait of Rev. Dr. Alfred Elwin as on CSA T24 $10s

    Zanesville, OH- The Town of Zanesville 6-1/4¢ (2); 25¢; 50¢ (2) 1837-41 Wolka 2951-01 (2); -06; -07; -08
The town of Zanesville issued two different series of municipal notes between 1837 and 1841. Both series are represented by this group of five notes which grade Good and better. All are intact although the 1841 50¢ note has a significant body tear and missing chunk out of the right end. Interestingly, this note has one of the earliest uses of the juvenile portrait of Rev. Dr. Alfred Elwin which also appeared on CSA T24 $10s. These notes are generally rare, with the following known populations of surviving examples not in museums: 6-1/4¢: 5; 25¢: 4; 50¢-1837: 2; 50¢-1841: Unique. There will be no returns on this lot for any reason.
