    Rare Reused Municipal Issue Set

    Youngstown, OH- A.B. Reny at Wick, Bro's & Co. 5¢; 10¢; 25¢ Dec. 1862 Wolka 2918-01; -02; -03
The background on this issuer is quite interesting. Almon and Bostwick Raney were proprietors of a flour mill and apparently used surplus or withdrawn municipal issues as their own (close inspection reveals that "Incorporated Village of" has been ruled out in red ink as has the title "Treasurer" at the bottom of the note). While grading Very Good with the usual assortment of minor condition issues such as edge divots, foldovers, and short splits, these notes are downright rare, with the 5¢ note being represented by two examples while the 10¢ and 25¢ notes are both presently believed to be unique. A 50¢ note probably exists but has not surfaced to date, making this a complete denomination set as well.
