Description

Troy, OH- The State Bank of Ohio, Miami County Branch Counterfeit $10, Raised $10 1848-57 UNL Wolka 2590-30; -36
The Troy branch attracted its share of counterfeit and spurious notes. The 1848 dated $10 is a tolerably well done counterfeit that grades Fine with no damage or repairs noted. It is betrayed by a sub-par portrait of Harrison on the left and by the fact that the farmer's knee does not touch the inside scalloped line in the central counter, The 1857 dated note is actually a genuine $1 note from this branch that was raised to a $10 by physically changing all references to the denomination. As an enhancement, the entire right end was reprinted so that a second portrait was incorporated, thus matching many abbreviated counterfeit detector descriptions. While this type of alteration is known from several branches, this example is unique from this branch. The raised note grades Good with a larger corner missing and a body tear on the left end. While this note will not win any beauty contests, the real question to ask is "When might you see another?"
