Description

Sandusky, OH- The Sandusky City Bank $3 Jun. 2, 1846
The bank was organized in 1846 and continued in business until, according to some contemporary sources, it "failed" in November 1854. If that in fact was true, it was quickly revived during the course of 1856-57 when the cashier sent a letter to the New York Tribune informing the readers of that paper that all was well. Apparently it was, as notes continued to be issued until 1865. The bank never became a national bank. Fair due to the plethora of typical problems at this grade level such as large missing pieces, tears, stains, etc. We cannot verify if this note is genuine or a contemporary counterfeit. There will be no returns on this lot for any reason.
