DescriptionNewtown, OH- The Newtown Library Company at the Hamilton County Bank $2 July 20, 1841 Wolka UNL
The Newtown Library Company received a state charter in 1810-1811. It went out of business around 1821 and sold all of its books. In 1840 some "investors" from the East bought the stock and charter and were supposedly to open a manual labor school. However, they instead opened an illicit bank and issued a lot of paper with essentially no backing. When discovered, they too went out of business. A water god with a pitcher gushing water is in the center and a maiden holding a shield is on the left. This note is one of two known and grades Fine.
