Newtown, OH- Newtown Library Co. - Hamilton County Bank, Office in Cincinnati $5 July 20, 1841 OH-340 UNL, Wolka 1976 UNL. PCGS Fine 15.
This was a bank of issue, without specie to back it up, and Wendell Wolka relates they did not have much of a library either for backing. The series is listed in Haxby and Wolka, but not this design type engraved by Durand, Hammond & Mason. An allegorical female and an eagle fly with a shield at top center. The office location is written. Fully issued and the first we have handled. The Wolka Collection had the listed $1 note (1976-02) and we have handled the unlisted $2 from the series. This is very rare.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
