    New Salem, OH- Jefferson Bank $5 Mar. 1, 1817
    This bank was only in business from 1817-18. Several lawsuits followed, and during a July 1818 trial, the prosecutor, David Redick, attacked the bank's president, Dr. George W. Duffield. Dr. Duffield in self-defense stabbed Mr. Redick to death with a doctor's lance. The doctor was tried for murder, but was acquitted. The $5 denomination was the highest denomination issued by this bank and the vignette is of the signing of the Treaty of Ghent. Crisp Uncirculated.
