New Salem, OH- Jefferson Bank $1 Mar. 1, 1817
This bank was only in business from 1817-18. Several lawsuits followed its demise, and during a July 1818 trial, the prosecutor, David Redick, attacked the bank's president, Dr. George W. Duffield. Dr. Duffield in self-defense stabbed Mr. Redick to death with a doctor's lance. The doctor was tried for murder, but was acquitted. Dr. Duffield signed this note. The vignette is of General Andrew Jackson inspiring his troops at the Battle of New Orleans. Fine with sound edges and paper.
