Description

Mount Vernon, OH- State Bank of Ohio, Knox County Branch Counterfeit $10 May 2, 1847 C1020 Wolka 1754-28
The State Bank of Ohio was one of the largest banks in the United States prior to the Civil War, with forty-one branches across the state. The Mount Vernon branch, like most others, was successful and was eventually succeeded by the Knox County National Bank in 1865. This example is a contemporary counterfeit (note that the farmer's knee does not touch the scalloped frame inside the die in the center vignette). Very Good with the normally expected edge divots, notches, and foldovers, but no repairs. Only the second note of any denomination we have offered from this scarcer branch.
