    Massillon, OH - Wellmans & Whitehead $2 Proprietary Proof Wolka 1619-6
    Hiram B. and Marshall D. Wellman (whose grandson was the famous author Jack London) were prominent businessmen in Massillon during the 1830s, 1840s, and 1850s. Samuel H. Whitehead was also listed in the 1840 and 1850 census, the latter showing his occupation as a merchant. These notes are so-called Proprietary Proofs that ABNCo produced for general business purposes many decades after their original design and production.
