    Manhattan, OH - Manhattan Bank $1 Jan. 1, 1838 G8 Wolka 1532-04
The Manhattan Bank was located in the "Toledo Strip," an area that was involved in a territorial dispute between the State of Ohio and the Territory of Michigan. Militias were sent to the area (now in and near Toledo) to settle the affair but fortunately missed each other. The federal government finally brokered a deal that gave Ohio the disputed land and gave the Territory of Michigan the remaining part of the Upper Peninsula not already included within its boundaries. The bank was closed by Ohio banking authorities in mid 1840. As such, this note is collected by both Ohio and Michigan collectors. An issue whose notes are typically VG or less. This PCGS Apparent Very Fine 25 with a back hinge remnant is at the top of the class.
