    The Hocking Valley Branch of the State Bank of Ohio opened in 1847 and remained in business until becoming the Hocking County National Bank of Lancaster (Charter 1241) in 1865. The bank's first president, Gustavus Swan, appears on the left of this note that was signed by J.R. Finn, vice president of the statewide system. One of his major responsibilities was to sign all low denomination notes for every branch. This $1 grades PMG Choice Very Fine 35, a condition level infrequently encountered on notes from this large successful branch bank network.
