Description

Kirtland, OH - Kirtland Safety Society Bank $10 Feby. 10, 1837 OH-245 G10, Wolka 1424-12, Rust 8. PCGS Choice About New 58 Apparent.
A historic Kirtland note with the scribe signature of Joseph Smith at the left and Sidney Rigdon at the right. Printed from the plate by Underwood, Bald, Spencer & Hufty, N. York & Philad. At top center is a daydreaming boy, the vignette cupped into part of the title running across the note. Identical ends show a standing man in riding apparel with a dog. Corners have "X" counters at the top and "10" at the bottom. From the start, the Kirtland notes were promised to be "as good as gold." But that pledge did not come true until two decades later in Salt Lake City under Brigham Young's leadership (Joseph Smith had been killed in Nauvoo, Illinois). Noted with "Small Edge Tears and Minor Damage; UL Corner Tip Reattached." The Smith signature is sharply accomplished, and the note is bright.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
