    Description

Elyria, OH- The State Bank of Ohio, Lorain Branch $3 G722 Wolka 1077-15 Proof
The State Bank of Ohio was one of the largest banks in antebellum America with forty-one branches spread across the state. The Lorain Branch was established in 1847 and remained in business until it became the First National Bank of Elyria (Charter 438) on May 25, 1864. The bank had $9,782 in outstanding circulation as of February 1, 1866 and this number was undoubtedly substantially reduced in subsequent years. Ohio Judges Jacob Burnet (left) and Ebenezer Lane (right) are depicted on this denomination. There are two Proof $3s known on this branch. PCGS Choice About New 58.
