DescriptionDelaware, OH- The Bank of Delaware $1 Faded G2 Wolka 1017-02
The Bank of Delaware was the product of the first attempt to establish a bank in the town. As was typical of the times, the organizers issued notes first and then sought a state charter. However, unlike most of its contemporaries, when faced with a refusal by the state legislature to issue such a charter, the organizers, both prominent local citizens, immediately reversed course and redeemed all notes presented for payment. This attractive $1 printed by Abner Reed, was apparently never presented for payment and grades a pleasant Fine-Very Fine with no repairs or damage other than a tiny margin nibble in the upper left corner noted. There are four known examples, with one of those in the collection of the Cincinnati Historical Society.
