Description

    Cuyahoga Falls, OH- W.A. Hanford 5¢, 10¢ ___ 1862 Remainders Wolka 0943-01, -02
Hanford was a mill owner and civic leader in Cuyahoga Falls and issued these notes in 1862 as a civic gesture. Commentaries suggest that he redeemed all notes issued and this is pretty well borne out by the fact that virtually all notes seen today are remainders. He must have printed thousands of notes as these scrip issues, payable at the Summit County branch of the State Bank of Ohio, are still one of the most common notes available from Ohio. The 5¢ grades Very Fine-Extremely Fine while the 10¢ note grades Uncirculated.
