DescriptionColumbus, OH- The State of Ohio Canal Stock Various Amounts 1850-1858 Fifteen Examples Fine and Better.
Most later banks in Ohio were secured by the deposit of state stocks (bonds) with state authorities. This lot comprises fifteen different examples of the most popular bond used by Ohio's banks, the 6% Canal Stock. These bonds were held in trust by the State Treasurer or Auditor of State (depending on the type of bank) for a specific bank that could then issue notes and collect interest on the bonds. Rarely seen, these make perfect items for any Ohio or banking collection. The bonds are fully intact but are typically punch or cut canceled and have normally expected edge foldovers, creases, and the like. There will be no returns on this lot for any reason.
