Description

Columbus, OH- The State Bank of Ohio, Franklin Branch $1 (2) ?, 1860 Wolka 0893-10
The Franklin Branch was established in 1845, staffed by a number of people involved with the Franklin Bank, which had closed in 1843 when its charter expired. The branch continued in operation until 1864 when it be came the Franklin National Bank of Columbus (Charter 599). The branch left a little over $25,000 in outstanding circulation as of 1866; a number greatly reduced in subsequent years. These notes are from the final ABNC produced issue. The complete note grades Very Good and is well circulated but completely intact. The center portion of the second note presents a bit of a mystery. It has obviously been cut, rather than torn and has "10" written in both top corners, face and back. The consignor speculates that this was a note found well after the branch had closed and used for perhaps play money by someone who did not know that the note could have been redeemed for its full face value even decades later. This note is very scarce from this branch, with the vast majority having been redeemed.
