The City Bank opened in 1845. Due to the collapse of an insurance company in which it had an interest, the bank suspended in November, 1854 and was revived during the course of 1856-57. It was wound up in 1863-64, with notes being redeemed until 1867 at which time the bank's $4389.50 bond which was used to secure the redemption of notes was released back to the bank's trustee. This $5 grades Very Good with just even wear. There are no repairs or damage noted. It is presently the only example known of this particular design for the bank.
