DescriptionCleveland, OH- The Canal Bank of Cleveland $2 Faded G4 Wolka 0710-05
The $2 features a portrait of Thomas Ewing on the right. Ewing was a well known Whig politician who served briefly as Secretary of the Treasury and as the first Secretary of the Interior. Several Democratic leaning bank officials objected to his portrait appearing on the $2. Unknown when the state catalog was published in 2004, this very rare denomination subsequently came out of the Schingoethe collection and today is the only example of a plain back $2 on the bank (Haxby lists only a uniface proof and a red back $2 for circulation). The note grades Good-Very Good with two long horizontal splits but is otherwise essentially intact. The question to be asked is - when might you see another?
