Description

Cincinnati, (OH)- Unknown Issuer $5-$3-$2-$1 Uncut Sheet Post Notes
These notes can be dated in the 1817-25 range due to the fact that President James Monroe is mentioned in the bearer clause. The January 1933 edition of The Numismatist has information that these "James Monroe" post notes were printed for the banking firm of John H. Piatt & Company. Another source tells us that Piatt's notes were known as either "Piatt's Paper" or "Piatt's Shinplasters" as Piatt flooded the area with worthless notes. Choice Crisp Uncirculated with an enlarged pinhole at top center of the first note.
