    Cincinnati, OH- The Miami Exporting Company 12-1/2¢; 25¢; $1 (2) 1818-41

The first bank chartered in Ohio in 1803, this enterprise's initial mission was to export agricultural products, primarily through New Orleans via the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. By 1804, thanks to a charter provision allowing it to do so, the company was a bank first and an exporting firm second...or third. By 1807, the exporting business was a fleeting memory. The bank ceased active business in 1822 and remained dormant until 1834 when it was resuscitated. It collapsed in January 1842 and was one of the causes of the Great Cincinnati Bank Riot of that year. Looters rifled the bank's offices and managed to get into the vault where they found $218,000 in company notes and $1,261 in specie. The two fractional notes and the 1819 $1 are from the bank's original period of operation and grade Very Good-Fine while the 1841 issue, which grades Fine-Very Fine is from the last days of the bank's life during its second period of operation.
