The Lafayette Bank opened in 1834 and remained in business until its charter expired in 1854. It then went on to become a private bank until 1862-63 when it again transformed itself into a Free Bank, although it did not issue any circulation. This note is from its 1834-54 period of operation and is one of the most striking Proofs that we have offered. It has both stunning vignettes and portraits on the face, while an unique extra large blue lazy "5" is observed on the back. PCGS New 62, mounted on card stock.
