    Description

89th Reg. Ohio V., USA, OH- W. Copes, Sutler $2 1863 Keller OH-PE-A Very Fine.
The 89th was a three years service unit that was mustered into service on August 26, 1862. It participated in a number of engagements and campaigns including Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, the Atlanta Campaign, Sherman's March to the Sea, and Bentonville. All but 135 men were surrounded and captured at Chickamauga. William C. Kimberly survived the war, receiving a disability discharge on October 6, 1863 (perhaps due to wounds received at Chickamauga). A historically riveting piece.
