    Description

New York, NY- Bull's Head Bank of the City of New York $1; Counterfeit $3 Faded as G2, C6c PMG Fine 12; Fine.
The Bull's Head Bank opened in 1854. Located at 338 Third Avenue, the bank did not become a national bank, remaining a state-chartered institution until approximately 1877. Infrequently seen and rare as a genuine issue that is apparently an unlisted variety with the Danforth, Wright and just the ABNCo monogram rather than either the Danforth, Wright (G2a) or Danforth, Wright and full ABNCo imprint (G2c). The note has done its job and has seen a lot of time in circulation but has survived th experience without accumulating any repairs or glaring impairments. Included for comparison, is the much more often encountered $3 contemporary counterfeit from the bank which has a couple of small edge tears and some small stains. (Total: 2 notes)
