Rare Dunkirk Bank 1851 Uncut Proof Sheet

Dunkirk, NY- Dunkirk Bank $1-$1-$2-$5 July 5, 1851 G2a-G2a-G4a-G6a Uncut Proof Sheet PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ, POCs.
The printer's handwritten notation in the right margin of this sheet reads, "worn plate, altered from Knickerbocker Bk." The Knickerbocker Bank was located in Genoa, NY and was in business from 1848-51. The plate was then officially altered for use by the Dunkirk Bank. All of the notes are dated July 5, 1851, with the Dunkirk Bank operating from 1851-55. The back card has picked up ink transference from another uncut sheet that was on the Southern Bank. Lot 1133 of the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale was comprised of only two identical examples of this attractive black and white Proof sheet. We auctioned the other sheet, which graded PMG AU 58, in January, 2012 for $4,600. Each note in our current offering has four punch out cancels along the signature lines. The POCs do not penetrate the backing.
