    Dover, NH - Strafford Bank $5 January 1, 1859 NH-75 G48b SENC. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent.
    A very rare $5 note engraved and printed by Toppan, Carpenter & Co. The type, like the $2 offered in this sale, is SENC in Haxby and noted as "None Known" in the Whitman Encyclopedia, Volume 2. Beneath the arced title at top center, Fame blows her trumpet as she floats in the clouds with an eagle and globe. America as a Native American princess is at the lower left. An allegorical figure representing the arts is at lower right. Identical "5" counters are in the upper corners. A large red FIVE protector is at the bottom. Noted as: "Hole Punch Cancelled" and "Severed and Backed; Small Rust Stain at UL." There is a cryptic notation on the back of the contemporary backing.
