    Discovery Strafford Bank $2 Type

    Dover, NH - Strafford Bank $2 January 1, 1858 NH-75 G24b SENC. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent.
This is a much rarer series of notes from the bank engraved and printed by Toppan, Carpenter & Co. The type is SENC in Haxby and noted as "None Known" in the Whitman Encyclopedia, Volume 2. A dog and safe motif is at top center, Franklin is in an oval frame at the lower left, and an eagle on a shield is at the lower right. In the upper corners are "2" counters. A red TWO protector is at the bottom center. This is one of several notes from the bank that were in the Newman Collection. Noted by grading as "Hole Punch Cancelled" and with a "Piece Missing at Left" that just barely touches on the vignette. A very rare issued note.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
