Issued Union Bank, Concord $3 Note-Kelly Plate

    Concord, NH - Union Bank $3 April 2, 1857 NH-45 G6a. PCGS Fine 15.
This rarity is the plated note in the Don C. Kelly Obsolete currency guide. The Union Bank series is beautifully engraved by Toppan, Carpenter & Co. from $1 to their highest $100 denomination issued. The $3 design is very exciting. In the main scene, two boys struggle to stop and restrain a wild horse that appears to have knocked down the worker sprawled on the ground. William Penn in an oval frame at lower left. A blacksmith is shown leaning on the handle of his sledgehammer at lower right. A red protector THREE is at the bottom. This note was signed and issued. Noted as "Hole Punch Cancelled" with one small hole at the left. Rarely encountered series. Ex: Eric P. Newman Collection where it realized $517.00 in the Part VII sale.
